PROMOTION OF LIFE SKILLS
According to UNICEF defined life skills as "Life skills" are defined as psychosocial abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. Examples of life skills explained below
There are skills needed for jobs that are not only desirable by employers but necessary in order to grow in your role or work well with others. Skills can fall into various categories and can transfer from one job to another. Some common job skills include the following:

ü  There are many skills that are useful and necessary in your day-to-day life. Depending on what stage of life you are in, these skills can differ from person to person. There are certain skills that can help you conquer some common challenges that can occur when you're learning to be independent and self-reliant.

Some common life skills include:

ü  First Aid and CPR
ü  Folding and putting away laundry
ü  Washing and drying clothes, dishes, windows or car

Personal Life Skills Examples
ü  There are many skills that assist a person in personal development. These skills can better your life and open you up to expanding and improving yourself in various areas of your life. Personal life skills include:

Student Skill Examples
ü  There are many skills needed by students that are essential to learning. Not only will these skills prepare you for your next level of education, they will also help you succeed at your current level. Some student skills include:

Sports Skills Examples
ü  There are a wide variety of skills needed for different sports: running, passing, throwing and so on. Depending on the type of sport you are engaging in, there's a specific set of skills needed to master it. Some fundamental abilities that will help you to learn those skills well include:

ü  Dealing with pressure
ü  Flexibility 

Sources of life skills
People learn life skills from different sources. The following are the major ones;

ü  Family- parents, guardians and other relatives are the primary sources from whom we learn different life skills
ü  Neighbors- We learn the different ways that people live with our neighbors. Good neighbors help us to behave well.
ü  Friends- friends enable us to acquire various life skills. Exchanging good ideas with friends helps to mold us into well-behaved individuals.
ü  Schools- the good education we get at school enables us to develop skills for life
ü  Society- the way people in the society live allows an individual to learn what is expected of him or her and how he or she behaves in different circumstances.
ü  Religion- good religious’ teachings help us to get skills which enable us to live harmoniously in society.
  
 Sources of life skills

Importance of life skills
Life skills are very important because they help a person to develop abilities which are necessary for making life better. Some of the things that these skills enable us to do include:

  •     Make proper decision in life on different matters, like friendships, the subjects to take at school and the careers to pursue.
  •   Develop good behavior. Through social skills, a person is able to avoid bad friends and anti-social behavior such as smoking, drug abuse, taking alcohol and getting into premature sexual relationships.
  •   Increase love and understanding for other people because of good social skills.
  • Respond effectively to different situations. Through life skills, a person is able to handle unfortunate occurrences such as divorce, the death of friends and relatives, examination pressure or any form of harassment and intimidation.
  •   Maintaining peace and order. Negotiation skills enable people to solve their problems peacefully, this help to prevent conflicts.
  •  Understand the environment and the ways of fitting in it.
